MELBOURNE, Fla. – Beginning the back half of their spring break trip to Florida, the University of Bridgeport's softball team (5-3) tallied two more wins on Tuesday. The Purple Knights registered a 4-0 triumph over Assumption before earning a 7-2 victory over Davis & Elkins.
GAME ONE - Bridgeport 4, Assumption 0
Coming off a five-inning no-hitter over the weekend, Kaite Burawski was once again stellar on Tuesday. The graduate student scattered just five hits while tossing her 21st career shutout.
Burawski, who was named the CACC Co-Pitcher of the Week on Monday, now holds an ERA of 1.14 across 30.2 innings with 39 strikeouts this season.
Offensively, Maya Jones led the way with a 2-for-2 effort and a pair of RBIs.
Madison D'Amato, Angela Oros, Paityn Thibodeaux, Charlee Horton and Emily Chase all added singles as UB recorded seven total hits in the game.
D'Amato also scored two of UB's four runs while Morgan picked up an RBI courtesy of a bases-loaded walk in the third inning.
GAME TWO – Bridgeport 7, Davis & Elkins 2
It was another great pitching effort in the finale for UB. Vise Zarate went the distance this time to nab her second win of the season. She allowed just two runs and struck out five.
Zarate was aided by a UB offense that tallied four runs in the fourth inning and three more in the sixth.
Sydney Perreault opened things up with a bases-loaded triple while Jones and Samantha Ledger each added RBI singles. Ledger chipped in a double in the contest as well.
Jones finished the doubleheader at 4-for-4 with two walks and three RBIs. She is now batting a team-best .500 in 22 at-bats this season with three walks and eight RBIs.
