COCOA, Fla. – On the second day of their spring break trip to Florida, the University of Bridgeport's softball team dropped a pair of contests to Saginaw Valley State on Saturday. The Purple Knights move their record to 1-3 so far this season.
Game One – Saginaw Valley 4, Bridgeport 2
UB was unable to hold onto a 2-0 lead through three as Saginaw Valley plated a run in each of the final four frames.
The Purple Knights' tallies were both unearned as UB managed just four hits in the opener. Charlee Horton and Paityn Thibodeaux each tallied doubles while Samantha Ledger and Madison D'Amato both had singles.
Sydnee Perreault, meanwhile, walked and scored a run.
In the circle, Kaite Burawski went the distance for Bridgeport. The graduate student allowed just three earned runs while tossing four strikeouts.
Burawski now has a 2.33 ERA with 16 strikeouts in her two outings this season.
Game Two – Saginaw Valley 2, Bridgeport 1
It was just a pair of singles and one walk in the finale for the Purple Knights' offense. UB's attack finished the afternoon with six hits in 14 innings on Saturday.
D'Amato registered the lone tally in the first after walking and moving over to third on a sac bunt and a ground out before scoring on a wild pitch.
Bridgeport's two knocks in the game were scattered singles by Mya Jones and Angela Oros.
On the other side of the ball, Vise Zarate was once again superb in the circle. The California native allowed just two runs on the board in six innings of action.
Zarate now boasts a 2.15 ERA across her 13 frames this season.
