MELBOURNE, Fla. – Playing their first contests of the 2025 season, the University of Bridgeport's softball team split a Friday doubleheader against Davenport University at the Space Coast Complex in Melbourne, Fla. The Purple Knights were defeated 5-4 in extra innings before posting a 4-2 win in the finale.
Game Two – Bridgeport 4, Davenport 2
Trailing 2-1 after four innings, the Purple Knights tallied three runs in the fifth and sixth frames to secure a Friday split.
Vise Zarate was superb in the circle for UB. The junior allowed just two earned runs and four hits across a complete-game performance. Zarate now holds a 31-19 record during her Bridgeport career.
Offensively, the Purple Knights piled up 10 hits (all singles) and five walks. Four different players registered RBIs in the contest while McKenzie Morgan led the way with three hits.
Sydnee Perreault and Mya Jones joined Morgan with multi-hit efforts of their own.
Game One – Davenport 5, Bridgeport 4 (8 Innings)
The Purple Knights dropped a dramatic decision in the opener. After tying the game at 2-2 in the seventh, UB was stymied by three Davenport runs in the eighth.
Bridgeport plated two of their own in the bottom half of the eighth before leaving the tying run on second to end the game.
Seven different players recorded the Purple Knights' seven total hits in the game. Jones initiated a pair of RBIs while Perreault hammered an RBI triple in the eighth.
Madison D'Amato came up clutch in the seventh for UB with an RBI single to send the game into extra innings.
Kaite Burawski pitched extremely well in a losing effort. The left-hander allowed just two earned runs across eight innings of work. She tallied 12 strikeouts in the game while walking just one.
