BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – In the first of two home doubleheaders this weekend, the University of Bridgeport's softball team earned two decisive wins over Goldey-Beacom on Saturday. The Purple Knights improve their conference record to 14-2 this season (17-17 overall).
GAME ONE – Bridgeport 6, Goldey-Beacom 0
A pair of home runs on offense and a two-hit performance from Kaite Burawski highlighted the opener. Burawski was masterful in the circle, tossing her first shutout of the season. She finished with 11 strikeouts.
Burawski has now won five of her last six starts. She holds an ERA of 3.22 across 108.2 innings pitched. She also ranks second in the CACC this season with 144 total strikeouts.
Offensively, the Purple Knights received home runs from both Samantha Schiebe and Mya Jones.
Jones drilled a two-run home run in the fifth after she knocked in two other runs with a single in the third. All in all, she finished 2-for-3 with four RBIs.
Madison D'Amato rounded out UB's top offensive performers with a 3-for-3, two-run performance.
D'Amato, Schiebe and Jones combined for all seven of Bridgeport's hits. They finished the contest 7-for-9 with five RBIs and four runs scored.
GAME TWO – Bridgeport 11, Goldey-Beacom 3 (Five Innings)
The Purple Knights battled back from a 2-0 deficit in the finale to earn a run-rule victory. UB scored multiple runs in each of the first four innings.
Jones homered again in the second contest while Meg McFarland went 3-for-4 with four RBIs. Hailey Kim also excelled at the plate with a 2-for-3, two-RBI, two-run performance.
Vise Zarate earned the win in the circle with another top-notch effort. The sophomore allowed just two runs in five innings of work.
