LITTLE FERRY, N.J. – Led by a pair of sensational pitching performances, the University of Bridgeport's softball team earned a doubleheader sweep at Felician on Wednesday. The Purple Knights now hold a 12-2 record in the CACC this season.
GAME ONE – Bridgeport 3, Felician 2
It was another impressive outing from Kaite Burawski that sparked UB in the opener. The left-hander tallied 14 strikeouts and allowed just two runs across seven innings of action. Felician mustered just three hits.
Burawski has now won four of her last five starts and holds a 3.44 ERA in 101.2 innings pitched this season. She also ranks second in the CACC with 133 total strikeouts.
With Burawski dealing, UB needed just three runs to secure the road win. Angela Oros' single up the middle that plated two runs in the fifth served as the eventual game-winning play.
Oros' RBI single was one of three hits for the Purple Knights. Hailey Kim also singled while Grace Derita hammered a triple and scored on Oros' base hit in the fifth.
GAME TWO – Bridgeport 1, Felician 0
It was another pitching gem for UB in the finale—this time from sophomore Vise Zarate. The California native tossed a one-hit shutout en route her seventh win of the year. Remarkably, she walked just one batter in the game.
Bridgeport's lone run came in the fifth inning off an RBI single from Madison D'Amato.
D'Amato, Oros, Kim, Mya Jones, and Samantha Schiebe all logged singles in the second contest.
