Bridgeport Conn.-University of Bridgeport junior shortstop Allison Luzzi (East Haven, Conn.) has been recognized for her outstanding performance in the classroom, as well her fine play on the field, with a spot on the 2019 Google Cloud Academic All-District 1 Softball squad.
The 2019 Google Cloud Academic All-District Softball Team, selected by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America), recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The Google Cloud Academic All-America program separately recognizes softball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at her current institution.
First-team Academic All-District honorees advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team (if necessary) Academic All-America honorees will be announced in early June.
The Google Cloud Academic All-District teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada.
The Division II and III Google Cloud Academic All-America programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2018-19 Divisions II and III Academic All-America programs. The NAIA Google Cloud Academic All-America program is partially financially supported through the NAIA national office.
A Biology major with a 3.36 grade point average, Luzzi is a two-time First Team All-East Coast Conference selection, as well as a two-time First Team NFCA All-East Region pick. In 2019, she led the Purple Knights in runs scored with 45 and batted .374 with six home runs and 28 RBI plus a .644 slugging percentage, as she also had 20 doubles and three triples during the season.
Her outstanding play this year also helped Bridgeport win its first-ever East Coast Conference title and make the program's first NCAA Division II Championship Tournament appearance in 30 years.
