Old Westbury, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport softball team split a road East Coast Conference doubleheader on Thursday afternoon, as UB won game one, 8-2, and NYIT railed to pick up the split with a 5-2 victory in game two. The Purple Knights are now 24-10 overall and 9-5 in the ECC. With the split, the Bears are now 11-16 overall and 5-9 in conference action.
In the opener, sophomore Kaira Ramon (Stamford, Conn.) had two hits, two RBI and two runs scored for the winners, and senior Kamryn Beach (Tampa, Fla.) blasted her second home run of the season.
Long Island native Samantha Ferreri (Hauppauge, N.Y.) had a two hits and an RBI for the game one winners, and UB also got runs a pair of runs batted from senior Stephanie Dean (Old Lyme, Conn.) and one RBI from senior Jenna DiLorenzo (Woodbridge, Conn.) in the opener.
Graduate student Amanda Staheli (Pecatonica, Ill.) picked up win number 13 of the season in game one firing a complete game in which she allowed five hits, no walks and fanned six.
In the nightcap, Bridgeport led 2-1 heading to the bottom of the fifth inning, but NYIT came back to plate two runs in the fifth and two more in the sixth to come away with the victory.
Kaira Ramon and junior Samantha Sabor (Plainfield, Ill.) drove in runs for the Purple Knights.
Up next, the UB softball team travels to New York City for an East Coast Conference Saturday doubleheader at Queens (N.Y.) College in Flushing. First pitch is set for 12 noon
