Cross Country Teams Begin Postseason at CACC Championships
Edoardo Vandelli earns All-Conference honors after 15th place finish.
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Following a four-meet regular season, the University of Bridgeport's men's and women's cross country teams began their postseason on Sunday at the 2024 CACC Championships. Both Purple Knight squads put together ninth-place finishes at the Belmont Plateau in Philadelphia, Pa.
Men's Recap (8K, 9th Place)
Edoardo Vandelli, who has been sensational during his rookie year, posted another major performance for UB on Sunday.
The freshman from Italy earned CACC All-Conference honors after placing 15th in the championship race. He rounded the Belmont Plateau course in a time of 28:45.42.
Sophomore Matt Torres, who has followed Vandelli at each meet this season, once again did so on Sunday. The Stamford, Conn. native registered a mark of 33:05.96 to place 48th.
Bridgeport's final three scorers on the men's side were Denzel Luna (59th place, 37:10.18), John Panzera (62nd place, 41:13.93) and Nick Migliarese (63rd place, 49:14.36).
Women's Recap (5K, 9th Place)
For the third straight meet, UB's women were led by freshman Stephanie Lickteig. The rookie clocked in at 23:56.93 to finish in 37th place.
Julia Fortune was not too far behind her teammate on Sunday. The junior registered a time of 25:12.78 to place 45th.
The Purple Knights' attack was aided by their final three scorers of Aubrey Cindia (56th place, 31:25.78), Lynzie Lawton (58th place, 31:43.75) and Samantha Rodriguez (60th place, 33:55.2).
