Track and Field Teams Start 2025 at NYC Gotham Cup
Purple Knights complete third indoor competition of the season.
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – Competing for the first time in 2025, the University of Bridgeport's men's and women's track and field teams took part in the NYC Gotham Cup on Friday. The semester-opening event was held at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island, N.Y.
WOMEN'S RECAP
Several top-25 marks led the way for UB on Friday, beginning with the 60-meter. A pair of freshmen piloted the Purple Knights in that race. Ricki Vogues finished in 24th place (8.70) while Abety Kivagheni was slotted right behind in 25th place (8.89).
It was another pair of newcomers leading Bridgeport in the 500-meter. Angelina Mermella made her collegiate debut with a 20th-place effort (1:39.16) while Stephanie Lickteig finished in 21st (1:42.40).
Julia Fortune also put forth a strong race on Friday. The junior from Rhode Island darted to a collegiate PR in the one-mile (5:51.34).
MEN'S RECAP
Edoardo Vandelli served as the Purple Knights' highest finisher on either squad. The freshman from Italy placed second in his first-ever, indoor 800-meter (1:56.77), losing the race by 0.05 seconds.
Another PR was tallied by Marvin Fenwick, Jr. in the triple jump. The freshman from New York registered a ninth-place mark of 13.37m. He also earned a score of 6.06m in the long jump to finish in 25th.
Dante Lingley set a school record for the Purple Knights on Friday. The graduate student sprinted to a 12th-place finish in the 200-meter (22.48).
Nick Migliarese, meanwhile, posted a new PR in the 60-hurdles (9.72) en route to a 25th-place performance. He also finished 25th in the weight throw with a mark of 11.92m.
