Track and Field Squads Complete Weekend at SCSU's Elm City Challenge
Purple Knights totaled 42 points across the two days hosted by SCSU.
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Following a successful Day One at the Art Kadish Elm City Challenge, the University of Bridgeport's men's and women's track and field teams capped off the event on Saturday in New Haven. The Purple Knights totaled 42 points across the two days hosted by SCSU.
Women's Recap (5th place, 20 points)
A winning mile time from Julia Fortune highlighted UB's scoring on Saturday. The junior posted a first-place mark of 6:05.84 while freshman Stephanie Lickteig placed third in the same race (6:26.01).
The 200-meter offered the most finishers for UB on Saturday. Kesiri Gonzales placed 16th (28.22), Abety Kivagheni in 23rd (29.78), Ricki Vogues in 24th (29.87), Lynzie Lawton in 30th (31.07) and
Samantha Rodriguez in 33rd (34.84).
The shot put and the triple jump offered the most field success for Bridgeport on Saturday. Erica Lindsay registered a 12th-place effort in the shot put (9.10m) while Faith Hershberger finished 10th in the triple jump (9.49m).
Men's Recap (6th place, 22 points)
An exciting 4x400m relay capped off the afternoon for the Purple Knights. UB's squad of Nickolas Barba, Edoardo Vandelli, Damian Coles, and John Panzera finished first among DII programs with a time of 3:34.27.
Speaking of Panzera, he also posted a new PR in the heptathlon on Saturday. The sophomore totaled a score of 4259 to finish in fifth place (3rd among DII programs). Panzera competed in the 55-hurdles (8.72), pole vault (3.60m) and 1,000-meter on Saturday (3:05.49).
UB also earned points from Coles placing 13th in the 200-meter and Marvin Fenwick, Jr. finishing 10th in the triple jump (12.85m).
