Track and Field Teams Halfway Through SCSU's Elm City Challenge
Purple Knights total 14 points through 16 completed events on Friday.
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – On Day One of SCSU's Art Kadish Elm City Challenge, the University of Bridgeport's men's and women's track and field teams totaled 14 points through 16 completed events on Friday.
Freshman Edoardo Vandelli served as one of the bright spots for UB courtesy of a winning time in the 600-meter. The native of Italy rattled off a school-record mark of 1:26.46 to cross the finish line first.
Another school record was registered in the 55-meter as Dante Lingley darted to a time of 6.50. He finished fourth in one of the quickest events of the day.
Nick Migliarese, who competed in the weight throw for the first time last week, improved in his second attempt on Friday. The sophomore posted a score of 12.19m.
Migliarese also finished 20th in the long jump (5.95m) while Marvin Fenwick, Jr. placed 23rd in the same event (5.87m).
John Panzera began his efforts in the heptathlon on Friday. The sophomore's highlights included a pair of PRs in the shot put (10.71m) and the high jump (1.90m).
Panzera also competed in the 55-meter (7.07) and the long jump (5.76m).
On the women's side, it was a trio of finishers in the 55-meter that spotlighted the action. Kara Sampath posted a mark of 7.85 while Ricki Vogues and Abety Kivagheni tallied respective times of 8.21 and 8.23.
