Dominant First Half Leads Men's Lacrosse in Decisive Win at Caldwell
Purple Knights score final 10 goals of the opening 30 minutes.
CALDWELL, N.J. – Propelled by a dominant first half, the University of Bridgeport's men's lacrosse team cruised to a 17-7 win at Caldwell on Wednesday afternoon. The conference triumph pushes the Purple Knights' overall record to 5-7 this season, including 2-4 in the CACC.
After Caldwell cut the UB lead to just 2-1 in the opening minutes, Bridgeport rattled off 10 straight goals to end the first half. The Purple Knights were able to sustain their large advantage throughout the final 30 minutes.
James Napoli was once again a massive provider for Bridgeport as he finished with 10 points for the second time in three games. He put in a season-high six goals to go along with four assists.
Napoli has now logged 14 goals and nine assists over his last three outings.
Stephen Trama also performed tremendously for the road squad. The freshman finished with season highs in goals (4), assists (2) and points (6)—all of which ranked second on UB this afternoon.
More offensive contributors for Bridgeport included James Goodrich who joined in with a hat trick while Matthew Levantini found the back of the net twice.
Luciano Canino and Kevin Dromm recorded goals as well in the win.
In addition to matching their highest goal total of the season, the Purple Knights also tied a season best with 43 ground balls. Goodrich led UB with seven GBs while Ryan Thomas picked up six.
Thomas also earned two of Bridgeport's nine caused turnovers in the game.
Sophomore Casey Dmochowski picked up the win in net after allowing just one goal and making four saves in the first half.
