Men's Lacrosse Surges Past STAC, 17-8
Purple Knights utilize 13-1 run en route to their fourth win of the season.
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Playing their final non-conference game of the regular season, the University of Bridgeport's men's lacrosse team earned a 17-8 win over St. Thomas Aquinas College on Wednesday. The decisive triumph pushes the Purple Knights' record to 4-6 this season.
Bridgeport's victory was highlighted by season highs in a plethora of categories, including goals scored (17), assists (15) and shots on goal (34). The Purple Knights also notched their second-highest caused turnover total with 16.
Individually, it was a marvelous afternoon from James Napoli that engineered the UB offense. The junior piled up a season-high 10 points courtesy of five goals and five assists.
Napoli's final tally of the game put the home squad up 14-5 at the 3:01 mark of the third quarter.
After Napoli, four more Purple Knights racked up multiple goals in the win. Ashton Lankowski registered a hat trick while Stephen Trama, Kevin Dromm and James Goodrich each recorded two goals apiece.
Hunter Lizza also scored in the contest to go along with three assists. He leads the Purple Knights this season in helpers with nine.
On the defensive side of the ball, Joe Martin and Ryan Thomas each tallied a team-high three caused turnovers. Thomas also tied with Connor Cullen for the team lead with four ground balls.
Thomas continues to rank second in the CACC in caused turnovers per game (2.60) this season.
In total, the Purple Knights forced 31 turnovers and finished with a 39-27 advantage in ground balls.
Sophomore goalkeeper Casey Dmochowski picked up the win in net. The Massachusetts native finished with eight stops while allowing just five goals across 45 minutes action.
Trailing 2-0, the Purple Knights scored the final six goals of the first quarter before extending their lead to 9-3 at halftime.
