Men's Lacrosse Drops Rainy Affair to Chestnut Hill, 7-5
Purple Knights put forth another strong defensive performance.
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – In a rainy defensive battle at Knights Field, the University of Bridgeport's men's lacrosse team (3-6, 1-3 CACC) dropped a 7-5 matchup to the defending CACC champions, Chestnut Hill College, on Saturday.
It was a low-scoring second half that doomed the Purple Knights as they logged just one goal across the final 33-plus minutes of regulation.
UB's defense was stout though for a second straight game. The Purple Knights have surrendered just 12 goals over their last two contests (1-1 record).
Bridgeport's offense was piloted by five different goal-scorers. James Goodrich, Stephen Trama, Luca Runyan, James Napoli and Hunter Lizza all found the back of the net for the home squad.
Trama also supplied an assist to finish with a team-best two points.
Connor Cullen was once again a standout performer from the face-off spot. The junior from Long Island won 11-of-14 while nabbing a game-high nine ground balls.
Cullen currently leads the CACC in face-off percentage (.658) while ranking third in ground balls per game (5.71).
On the defensive side of things, UB finished with 15 caused turnovers. Ryan Thomas initiated a team-high four while Runyan registered a trio of CTs. Thomas is currently slotted second in the CACC in CTs per game (2.56) this season.
Casey Dmochowski, who was named the CACC's Co-Goalkeeper of the Week on Monday, piled up 10 more stops against Chestnut Hill. He has now reached double-figure saves in eight of nine games this season.
