RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Propelled by a dominant defensive performance, the University of Bridgeport's men's lacrosse team earned a 7-5 win at Felician University on Sunday. The road triumph pushes the Purple Knights' record to 3-5 overall this season and 1-2 in the CACC.
Down 5-1 after one quarter, Bridgeport didn't allow a single goal over the final 45-plus minutes of regulation.
The Purple Knights outscored Felician, 6-0, after the Golden Falcons scored their fifth goal at 3:28 of the opening quarter.
James Napoli led the way for the road squad with his first hat trick of the season. He also matched Brian Wolfe for the team lead in ground balls (4).
One of Napoli's three goals tied the game up at 5-5 with 11:11 left in the third quarter.
Matthew Levantini scored twice for the Purple Knights, including the game-winning tally with 6:50 remaining in the final frame.
James Goodrich served as UB's other goal-scorer in the game as he put UB on the board at the 3:44 mark of the first quarter. Felician led 4-1 at that point.
Casey Dmochowski kept UB in the game from the goalkeeper position. The sophomore piled up 13 stops while allowing a season-low five goals.
Junior Connor Cullen once again performed well in face-off opportunities. The Long Islander won two-thirds of his battles, finishing 8-for-12.
