BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Playing a third consecutive home game, the University of Bridgeport's men's lacrosse team was defeated by Wilmington on Saturday by a score of 19-9. The loss puts the Purple Knights' record at 2-5 overall this season and 0-2 in CACC play.
With the Wildcats up by just one goal at halftime, it was the final 30 minutes that ultimately halted UB. The Purple Knights were held scoreless in the third quarter as Wilmington built up a 15-7 edge.
A pair of hat tricks led Bridgeport's offense as Matthew Levantini and Ashton Lankowski each netted three goals. Lankowski is UB's leading scorer this season with 13 tallies.
James Goodrich joined in with two goals of his own while Hunter Lizza notched UB's opening tally. Lizza also dished out an assist.
Connor Cullen, meanwhile, was superb in his face-off matchups. The Long Island native went 16-of-21 while nabbing a team-high eight ground balls.
Over his last two games, Cullen is 33-of-42 (78.6%) in face-offs with 19 ground balls.
Defensively, the Purple Knights' 14 caused turnovers are their second highest total of the season. Ryan Thomas, who was named to the USILA's Team of the Week on Wednesday, tallied a team-high four CTs.
Thomas currently ranks second in the CACC with 17 caused turnovers on the season.
