Men's Lacrosse Falls to Post in First Round of CACC Playoffs, 16-13
The Purple Knights improved from one win in their maiden year to a 7-8 record in 2024.
WATERBURY, Conn. – In the first playoff game in their program history, the fifth-seeded University of Bridgeport's men's lacrosse team dropped a 16-13 contest at fourth-seeded Post in the first round of the CACC Tournament on Sunday. The loss ends the Purple Knights' year with an overall record of 7-8.
Despite the loss, UB has nothing to be ashamed of this season. The Purple Knights improved from one win in their maiden year to a 7-8 record in 2024. Remarkably, Bridgeport scored 72 more goals and gave up 40 less goals than a year ago.
It was almost a sensational comeback for the Purple and White on Sunday. UB battled back from a 9-2 deficit to tie the game at 13-13 with 9:54 left in regulation. Post closed the game with a 3-0 stretch.
Individually, Dewey Schoenfelder led the way with a team-high four goals while Aidan Kirkpatrick registered four points off three tallies and an assist.
James Napoli and Ashton Lankowski each joined in with a pair of goals while Matthew Levantini chipped in a goal and two assists.
Defensively, Joe Martin registered a pair of caused turnovers and grabbed six ground balls. UB finished the game as a team with a 41-25 advantage in ground balls.
Connor Cullen put together a great day at the face-off X. The sophomore went 23-for-31 with a game-high 11 ground balls.
Cullen finishes the season as the top face-off guy in the CACC. The Long Island native went 204-for-308 in face-off matchups this year and picked up 104 ground balls (3rd in the CACC).
