Men's Lacrosse Rallies for Overtime Win at D'Youville
Purple Knights erase three-goal deficit over the final 2:18 of regulation.
BUFFALO, N.Y. – Fueled by a furious rally in the final moments of regulation, the University of Bridgeport's men's lacrosse team earned an 11-10 overtime win at D'Youville on Saturday. The victory pushes the Purple Knights' record to 2-2 this season.
Down 10-7 with less than three minutes left, UB found the back of the net three times to force overtime. The Purple Knights' final two tallies came with less than a minute remaining in regulation.
Defensively, Bridgeport didn't allow a goal across the final 15 minutes of regulation and then five-plus minutes of overtime.
Ashton Lankowski started the rally at the 2:18 mark while Aiden Kirkpatrick scored with 54 seconds remaining followed by James Napoli with 35 ticks on the clock.
Connor Cullen came up with a pair of clutch face-off wins after UB's ninth and 10th goals. The sophomore captain was terrific at the X all game long, finishing 18-of-26 with nine ground balls.
Senior Dewey Schoenfelder served as the hero in overtime. The Maryland native scored his second goal of the game to clinch a thrilling win for the Purple Knights. Schoenfelder also finished with three assists for a team-high five points.
Kirkpatrick and Daniel Orebiyi chipped in two goals of their own while Darien Frey, Joe Martin and Matthew Levantini all added one tally apiece.
Goalkeeper Peter Nazario earned his second win in net this season. The senior captain finished with five saves.

The Purple Knights will travel to Molloy next Saturday for a noon contest against the Lions.
