Furious Comeback By UB Men's Lacrosse Falls Just Short At Caldwell
Purple Knights Score The Final Five Goals Of Contest But Are Defeated 10-8
West Caldwell, N.J.-Furious comeback by the University of Bridgeport men's lacrosse team fell just short on Tuesday night, as the Purple Knights fell in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference road contest against the Caldwell University Cougars, 10-8. UB is now 1-7 overall and 0-2 in the CACC. Caldwell moves to 2-6 overall and 1-2 in conference play.
The Purple Knights trail 8-3 at halftime, and 10-3 in the third quarter, but Bridgeport battled back to net the final five goals in the game to pull within two with 5:24 to play.
Freshman James Napoli (Wantagh, N.Y.) led UB in goals scored with three on Tuesday.
Sophomore Tyne Hewlette (Bayshore, N.Y.) had a four-point night with two goals and pair of assists, and freshman Darien Fray (Uniondale, N.Y.) also had two goals.
Junior Dewey Schoenfelder (Mt. Airy, Md.) netted Bridgeport's other goal and chipped in one assist at Caldwell.
In the Purple Knights' cage, junior Peter Nazario (Farmindale, N.Y.) played his usual strong game recording a total of 23 saves.
Up next, the UB men's lacrosse team closes out its five-game road trip at Dominican University New York on Wednesday, April 12, when the Purple Knights and Chargers will face-off in a 4:00 p.m. CACC contest.
