Waterbury, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport men's lacrosse team opened its 2023 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference schedule on Sunday at Post University, and the host Eagles defeated the Purple Knights, 15-6. UB is now 1-6 overall and 0-1 in the CACC. Post is now 5-3 overall and 1-0 in the CACC.
The Purple Knights had a strong start to the contest, as they were down only 4-3 after the first quarter, but the hosts outscored the visitors, 11-3, over the final three quarters to notch the victory.
Sophomore Tyne Hewlette (Bayshore, N.Y.) led the UB offense with three goals, and senior Nick Whelan (Rockville Centre, N.Y.), junior Dewey Schoenfelder (Mt. Airy, Md.) and freshman James Napoli (Wantagh, N.Y.) each had single goals for the Purple Knights.
Sophomore goalkeeper Peter Nazario (Farmingdale, N.Y.) continued his excellent 2023 season between the Bridgeport pipes making a total of 20 saves.
Up Next, the UB men's lacrosse team continues its' five-game road trip with a CACC tilt at Felician University next Saturday evening. Game time in New Jersey is set for 7:30 p.m.
