Men's Basketball Falls to Post in Regular-Season Finale
Purple Knights (16-12, 10-6 CACC) are seeded third in the upcoming CACC Championship Tournament.
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Hampered by a season-low point total, the University of Bridgeport's men's basketball team was defeated by Post in its regular-season finale on Saturday. The 73-62 loss on Senior Day puts UB's record at 16-12 overall this season.
The Purple Knights will now gear up for CACC Championship Tournament where they are the No. 3 seed after going 10-6 in the conference this season. UB will play at second-seeded Chestnut Hill on Tuesday night (6 p.m.) in Philadelphia.
Bridgeport picked a tough time to record its lowest field-goal percentage of the season (29.2) on Saturday. The Purple Knights made just 21 of their 72 attempts from the floor, including 7-for-29 from beyond the arc.
Post, on the other hand, led through the final 25:19 of regulation, including a game-high advantage of 53-31 midway through the second half.
Aliou Cisse and Justin Hendrick led the Purple Knights on Saturday, combining for more than half of UB's offensive output. Hendrick notched a team-high 19 points on 6-of-12 shooting while Cisse chipped in 18 of his own.
Cisse also nabbed 10 rebounds to pick up his fourth double-double of the season. He caps the regular season with averages of 20.1 points (2nd, CACC) and 6.2 rebounds per contest.
Outside of Hendrick and Cisse, the Purple Knights shot just 10-of-48 (20.1%) from the floor. UB's team totals also featured just five steals and two blocks. The Purple Knights have only tallied less than five steals in a game once this season.
Caleb Jacobs led UB with five assists to go along with five rebounds and a steal. Jacobs currently ranks fifth in the CACC in assists per game (3.6) and tied for second in the league with teammate Nick Traill in steals (2.1).
