Men's Basketball Drops Franklin Pierce, 90-71
Purple Knights move their record to 15-11 this season.
RINDGE, N.H. – Playing their final non-conference contest of the regular season, the University of Bridgeport's men's basketball team picked up a 90-71 win at Franklin Pierce on Wednesday night. The Purple Knights, who have now won six of their last seven games, improve their record to 15-11.
Bridgeport used a 23-2 run in the first half to seize control of their sixth non-conference victory of the season. UB led by as many as 20 points in the first 20 minutes before holding a 17-point edge at halftime.
The Purple Knights expanded to a 56-29 advantage early in the second half and maintained at least a 14-point lead throughout the remainder of regulation.
Dominance on the glass played a massive role in Wednesday's outcome. The Purple Knights outrebounded Franklin Pierce by a 55-36 margin, including 18 on the offensive side of things.
Bridgeport continues to lead the CACC in almost every rebounding category this season, including offensive boards per game (16.9) by a wide margin.
Offensively, UB surpassed the 50-percent mark from the field for the seventh time this season. The Purple Knights made 39 of their 77 shots (50.6%), including a total of 50 points coming in the paint.
On the individual side of things, Aliou Cisse racked up a team-best 17 points while Amadou Traore (14 pts) and Jason Edokpayi (10 pts) also reached double figures.
Cisse put in eight of his 14 shots from the field while also grabbing six rebounds. He is now averaging 20.3 points (2nd, CACC) and 6.0 boards per game this season.
It was another balanced effort for the Purple and White who boast one of the top benches in the CACC. 10 different players made multiple field goals on Wednesday and six different players dished out more than one assist.
Six Purple Knights grabbed at least five rebounds in the game as well, including a team-best seven from Gabe Franklin. Bridgeport reached 50 boards as a team for the sixth time this season.
