Men's Basketball Has Five-Game Winning Streak Snapped at Dominican
Purple Knights’ record moves to 14-11 this season (9-5, CACC).
ORANGEBURG, N.Y – Entering the night on a five-game winning streak, the University of Bridgeport's men's basketball team was defeated at Dominican on Sunday by a score of 90-81. The loss shifts the Purple Knights' record to 14-11 this season which includes a 9-5 mark in the CACC.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
Aliou Cisse led the way for the road squad with a game-high 23 points. He also tied with Jason Edokpayi for the team lead with seven rebounds.
Speaking of Edokpayi, the graduate student chipped in 12 points and two blocks as well off the bench.
Cisse, who eclipsed 20 points for the 11th time this season, currently ranks second in the CACC in scoring (20.4 ppg). He is also averaging 6.0 rebounds per contest while shooting 54.3% from the floor.
Amadou Traore served as the Purple Knights' third player in double figures. The Harlem, N.Y. native contributed 12 points on 6-of-8 shooting from the field. He also added five rebounds and a block.
On the defensive side of things, Nick Traill and Caleb Jacobs each racked up five steals. The duo also combined for 14 points, nine assists and nine rebounds.
As a unit, the Purple Knights outrebounded Dominican by 16 to raise their conference-best rebounding margin to +5.1 this season. UB also leads the CACC in total rebounds and offensive rebounds per contest.
Offensively, the Purple Knights finished 33-of-73 (45.2%) from the floor, 3-for-18 from long range and 12-of-23 from the free-throw line.
HOW IT HAPPENED
It was a tough first half that ultimately hurt the Purple Knights on Sunday. UB turned the ball over 17 times in the opening 20 minutes while totaling just 33 points.
A 19-5 run in the first half provided the Chargers with a 13-point lead before taking a nine-point edge into halftime.
Dominican stretched its advantage to as high as 16 points early in the second half before Bridgeport climbed back to within three points on two occasions late in the second half.
With UB trailing by just 69-66 at the 4:19 mark, Dominican answered with a 13-6 spurt to go up 82-72 with 1:35 on the clock. The Chargers ended up scoring 21 points over the final 3:45 of regulation to help clinch the win.
