Men's Basketball Earns Fifth Straight Win with Rout of Caldwell
Purple Knights move their record to 14-10 overall and 9-4 in the CACC.
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Continuing a red-hot month of February, the University of Bridgeport's men's basketball team rattled off a 95-72 win over Caldwell on Tuesday night. The Purple Knights, who have now won five games in a row, improve their record to 14-10 overall this season and 9-4 in the CACC.
It was a second straight dominant effort from the home squad, who also won by 20-plus points on Saturday against Holy Family. This time, UB led wire-to-wire against Caldwell and led by as many as 34 points in the second half.
Up 11 at the break, Bridgeport started to pile it on courtesy of a 19-5 run to start the second half. The Purple Knights' largest lead was 88-54 with 7:26 left in the game.
Bridgeport did everything well against the Cougars, including a 37-of-71 (52.1%) performance from the field and a 10-for-23 clip from three-point range. The Purple Knights are now 27-for-58 (46.5%) over their last two games from long range.
UB's defense was also sensational on Tuesday night. The Purple Knights recorded 16 steals and forced 19 Caldwell turnovers. Bridgeport scored 30 points off those turnovers while posting a 48-30 advantage in points in the paint.
Individually speaking, Aliou Cisse led UB in scoring with a team-high 27 points. The junior finished 11-of-15 from the floor, including a 3-for-3 clip from beyond the arc.
Cisse, who ranks second in the CACC in scoring (20.3 ppg) this season, has now logged 20 or more points in 10 games. He is also slotted sixth in the conference in field-goal percentage (55.6) while attempting the most shots in the league.
Cisse was joined in double figures on Tuesday by Caleb Jacobs (16 pts) and Jason Edokpayi (14 pts) who combined for 30 points on 10-of-16 shooting.
Edokpayi also led UB in rebounds (8) and blocks (3) and is currently ranked fourth in the CACC in swatted shots per game (1.3).
Nick Traill, meanwhile, recorded one of the most versatile stat lines of the season. The graduate guard tallied six points, seven assists (team high), five rebounds and five steals (team high).
Traill is now ranked second in the CACC in assists per game (4.3) and third in steals per game (2.2).
The Purple Knights' 14 total wins and nine conference victories so far this season are their most since the 2019-20 campaign. UB still has four games remaining in the regular season.
