Men's Basketball Jolts Past Georgian Court, 88-74
Purple Knights improve to 6-4 in the CACC after second straight win.
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Coming off a mid-week conference win over Felician, the University of Bridgeport's men's basketball team continued its momentum on Saturday courtesy of an 88-74 win over Georgian Court at Harvey Hubbell Gymnasium. The victory pushes the Purple Knights' record to 11-10 overall this season and 6-4 in the CACC.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
It was one of UB's most balanced offensive performances of the season that sparked the home squad. In fact, Bridgeport's top two scorers came off the bench in the form of Justin Hendrick and Malikai Delgado.
Those two combined for 26 points on 9-of-12 shooting from the field and 4-for-5 from beyond the arc. They also chipped in a total of six assists and a steal apiece.
Three other Purple Knights joined in double figures as Amadou Traore, Caleb Jacobs and Jayson Handy each finished with an even 10 points.
Handy also added a career-high 14 rebounds to pick up his first career double-double. Traore ranked second on the squad with 7 boards to go along with a block, a steal and two assists.
Collectively, it was the Purple Knights' most efficient offensive game of the year. UB went 36-of-61 from the floor which signified a new season-best field goal percentage (59%).
Rebounding was once again a massive reason for Bridgeport's success. The home squad posted a 47-to-28 advantage on the glass. The plus-19 margin marked a new season-best.
The Purple Knights now lead the CACC in rebounding margin (3.4) this season while they continue to rank first in the league in offensive boards per game (16.2).
UB's bench continues to be a giant positive as well, especially recently. The Purple Knights registered a 50-14 edge in bench points after finishing plus-26 versus Felician earlier this week.
