Men's Basketball Falls in OT at Goldey-Beacom, 86-82
Purple Knights now 4-4 in the CACC this season.
WILMINGTON, Del. – Playing in their first overtime contest of the season, the University of Bridgeport's men's basketball team dropped an 86-82 matchup at Goldey-Beacom College on Saturday. The loss puts the Purple Knights at 4-4 in the conference this season and 9-10 overall.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
Aliou Cisse, who ranks third in the CACC in scoring (20.4 ppg) this season, once again led the Purple Knights with 16 points. He also registered five rebounds and three assists.
Speaking of assists, Nick Traill dished out a game-high five of them. He also chipped in 13 points and seven rebounds—both of which ranked second on the squad.
Michel Ndayishimiye served as Bridgeport's third player in double figures courtesy of 11 points off the bench. Jason Edokpayi also performed well off the bench with nine points on 4-of-5 shooting.
UB's other statistical leaders included Amadou Traore with eight rebounds to go along with eight points while Malikai Delgado tallied a team-high two blocks.
As a team, Bridgeport finished 30-of-68 (44.1%) from the field, 9-for-29 (31%) from three and 13-of-20 (65%) from the free-throw line.
With another close outcome in the books, 13 of UB's 19 games this season have been decided by single digits. The Purple Knights are 6-7 in those contests.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Leading for almost the entirety of regulation, including an 18-point edge with 7:21 remaining, UB was unable to close Goldey-Beacom out. The Lightning tied the game for the first time at 72-72 with just 21 seconds on the clock. The game then went to OT.
Goldey-Beacom climbed out of another deficit in extra time. Down 80-76, GBC closed the game on a 10-2 run over the final 2:14 of overtime.
The Lightning's comeback featured a 22-4 stretch over the final 6:25 of regulation. Goldey-Beacom knocked in six three-pointers during that span.
