Men's Basketball Downed by Dominican, 88-86
Furious comeback falls just short for the Purple Knights.
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Coming off a pair of road conference wins last week, the University of Bridgeport's men's basketball team was defeated by Dominican at home on Wednesday night by a score of 88-86. The tight loss shifts the Purple Knights to 4-3 in league play this season while the Chargers improve to 6-1.
A frantic and crowd-stirring comeback served as UB's largest bright spot versus the Chargers. The Purple Knights were able to cut a 22-point second-half deficit to just four points with less than a minute left in the game.
UB utilized a 27-10 stretch over 7:42 of game time which trimmed the score to 84-80 with 35 seconds on the clock. Dominican closed the game with four made free throws and one more defensive stop.
The Purple Knights' efforts were also highlighted by forcing 28 Dominican turnovers and swiping 15 steals. UB now leads the CACC in both of those categories this season.
On the individual side of things, Aliou Cisse poured in another 23 points on 10-of-17 shooting. The junior is currently slotted third in the CACC in scoring this season (20.7 ppg) while shooting over 54-percent from the field.
Cisse also added seven rebounds and a pair of steals on Wednesday night.
Speaking of rebounds, Jason Edokpayi grabbed a team-high 11 of them to go along with 10 points. He now has picked up three double-doubles this season and currently leads UB in both rebounds (7.1) and blocks (1.3) per contest.
Caleb Jacobs shined for the Purple and White as well. The senior guard knocked in 17 points on 8-of-11 shooting. He is now an impressive 15-for-20 from the field in his last two games.
Jacobs also led Bridgeport in both steals and assists in the game with four apiece.
Nick Traill served as UB's final player in double figures. The graduate guard made 5-of-7 from the floor en route to 12 points.
Bridgeport's offensive totals featured 34-of-77 (44.2%) from the field, a 7-for-23 clip (30.4%) from long range and an 11-of-21 (52.4%) effort from the charity stripe. UB attempted 14 more shots from the floor than Dominican.
