Men's Basketball Wins at Jefferson, 76-71
Purple Knights move to 4-2 in league play this season.
PHILADEPHIA, Pa. – Facing a second straight regionally regarded team on the road, the University of Bridgeport's men's basketball team picked up a 76-71 win at Jefferson on Saturday. The Purple Knights' first victory over the Rams since 2007 pushes their record to 9-8 overall this season and 4-2 in the CACC.
For the second straight game, it was defense that sparked a UB win. Bridgeport allowed its second lowest point total of the season and limited the Rams to their second lowest shooting percentage (20-of-58, 34.5%) of the season.
The Purple Knights also nabbed 11 steals and forced 15 Jefferson turnovers. UB ranks second in the CACC in both of those stat categories this season.
Rebounding was also a massive factor in Saturday's outcome. UB outrebounded Jefferson by a 46-34 margin which led to a 48-22 advantage in points in the paint.
Individually, the road squad was led by a trio in double figures. Caleb Jacobs piloted the attack with a team-high 15 points on 7-of-9 shooting from the field. He also added a season-high and team-best four steals.
Aliou Cisse followed with a 14-point effort while Justin Hendrick chipped in 11 points off the bench.
Remarkably, after the three in double figures, it was five players finishing with exactly six points for UB. Nick Traill was one of those six-point scorers to go along with tallying three steals and a team-best four assists.
Collectively, Bridgeport's offense finished 30-of-67 (44.8%) from the field and 12-for-17 from the free-throw line. Over their last two games, UB has knocked in 28-of-38 (73.7%) from the charity stripe.
The Purple Knights led Jefferson for over 30 minutes of game time, including almost the entirety of the second half. Bridgeport built up its lead to as many as 11 points with 6:07 remaining in regulation.
