Men's Basketball Tallies 75-68 Win at Caldwell
Purple Knights move to 3-2 in conference play this season.
CALDWELL, N.J. – Coming off a pair of two-point losses last week, the University of Bridgeport's men's basketball team earned a 75-68 win at Caldwell on Tuesday night. The win puts the Purple Knights' record at 8-8 overall this season and 3-2 in the CACC.
Bridgeport, which leads the conference in scoring this season, utilized its defense against the Cougars. The Purple Knights held Caldwell five points under its season average while forcing them to commit a season-high 21 turnovers.
UB's defense, which allowed an opponent under 70 for the first time this season, also totaled 11 steals and four blocks while limiting Caldwell to 24-of-64 from the field (37.5%). The Purple Knights had four different players record multiple takeaways in the game.
On the scoring side of things, it was an extremely balanced affair. Bridgeport had four players score in double figures and six tally at least seven points in the game.
Aliou Cisse, who ranks third in the CACC in scoring this season (21.0 ppg), led the Purple Knights with 14 points on 5-of-9 shooting. He is also ranked 10th in the league in field-goal percentage on the most attempts in the conference.
Following Cisse, UB had three players come off the bench to score in double figures. Amadou Traore neared his first double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds while also swatting away two shots.
Traore has scored 27 points and grabbed 17 rebounds over his last two games.
Malikai Delgado and Michel Ndayishimiye joined in off the bench with 11 points and 10 points respectively. Ndayishimiye made both of his three-point attempts while his three assists tied with Caleb Jacobs and Nick Traill for a team high.
The Purple Knights led by five at halftime before building up a game-high advantage of 14 points in the second half. Bridgeport led by at least nine points throughout the final 6:57 of regulation.
UB put together a nice night at the free-throw line as well, finishing 16-of-21. They also outrebounded Caldwell, 44-39.
