Men's Basketball Falls in Final Seconds at Queens
Purple Knights move to 7-7 overall this season.
QUEENS, N.Y. – Playing their second road game in a four-day span, the University of Bridgeport's men's basketball team suffered an 82-80 loss at Queens College on Tuesday night. The non-conference defeat shifts the Purple Knights' record to 7-7 this season (2-1, CACC).
In a game that featured a remarkable 18 ties and six lead changes, it was Queens' Omar Nkonde who made a layup with 0.8 seconds left to lift the home squad to a dramatic victory.
Bridgeport tied the game at 80-80 courtesy of a layup in traffic from Justin Hendrick with about six seconds on the clock. Hendrick was huge in his first start of the season, supplying 15 points on 6-of-10 shooting (3-for-3 from three-point).
Queens closed the game on a 15-6 spurt after an Aliou Cisse free throw put Bridgeport up 74-67 with 3:46 remaining.
Speaking of Cisse, he notched a team-high 21 points. He also added seven rebounds and three steals (team high). Cisse is the CACC's leading scorer this season (21.8 ppg) while also being ranked third in the league in steals per game (2.2).
Nick Traill served as the Purple Knights' main distributor as he dished out six assists. He is currently slotted fifth in the CACC in helpers per game (3.8) this season.
Traill also registered eight points and a steal while Jason Edokpayi led Bridgeport with eight rebounds and had nine points of his own.
As a team, the Purple Knights shot over 50-percent (32-for-63) from the field while making 9 of their 14 attempts from the free-throw line and 7-of-20 from long range.
All seven of UB's players off the bench recorded points in the game.
