Men's Basketball Opens 2025 with Win at Chestnut Hill
Aliou Cisse led the way for UB with 29 points.
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Coming off a two-week holiday break, the University of Bridgeport's men's basketball team earned an 88-77 win at Chestnut Hill College on Saturday. The conference victory pushes the Purple Knights' record to 7-6 overall this season and 2-1 in the CACC.
Aliou Cisse was sensational for the road squad. The Yonkers, N.Y. native missed just three shots (12-for-15) en route to a game-high 29 points. With UB leading 79-77 late in the second half, Cisse knocked in back-to-back buckets to give Bridgeport a six-point lead with 1:35 remaining in regulation.
Cisse, who now has six 20-point games this season, currently leads the CACC in scoring (21.8 ppg) this season. He is also slotted sixth in the league in field-goal percentage (55.4%).
Following Cisse, it was a collective effort from the Purple Knights on Saturday. In fact, Bridgeport had 11 different players register at least two points in the game.
Jayson Handy and Nick Traill rounded out a trio of double-figure scorers. The two guards each chipped in 11 points.
Traill also led the Purple Knights in a trio of different categories, including rebounds (7), assists (5) and steals (3).
A trio of seven-point scorers also lifted Bridgeport in the form of Gabe Charleston, Jason Edokpayi and John Dash. Dash finished 3-of-4 from the field in his season debut.
As a team, UB's offense posted a 35-for-71 effort from the field which included a 6-for-14 clip from three-point range. The Purple Knights made 12 of their 22 attempts from the free-throw line.
Other advantages for Bridgeport included a 40-26 edge in points in the paint and an 18-8 margin in points off turnovers.
