Men's Basketball Wins Thriller at AIC, 100-98
Purple Knights move to 3-0 this season.
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Trailing by as many as 15 points in the first half, the University of Bridgeport's men's basketball team came all the way back to snag a 100-98 win at AIC on Wednesday night. The victory pushes the Purple Knights' record to 3-0 for the second time in the last three seasons.
Caleb Jacobs ultimately served as the hero for UB as he hit two free throws with one second on the clock to break a 98-98 tie. Jacobs put the finishing touches on a 12-point, seven-rebound effort.
Several other key plays ignited the away squad on Wednesday, including back-to-back fastbreak buckets by Aliou Cisse to give UB a 98 – 93 lead with 39 ticks on the clock.
Cisse once again served as Bridgeport's top scorer with another 23 points on 10-of-17 shooting. He also finished as UB's top assist man with four. Cisse leads the CACC in scoring so far this season (21.7 ppg).
Malikai Delgado, Amadou Traore and Michel Ndayishimiye all joined in with double-digit performances of their own. The trio combined for 36 points, which included season-bests from Traore (12 pts.) and Ndayishimiye (12 pts.).
The Purple Knights put together several large team advantages in the game, including 58-30 in paint points and 41-20 in bench production. Bridgeport also shot a season-high 52.5% (39-of-75) from the field while recording a season-low 10 turnovers.
AIC held a 51-36 edge with 3:41 left in the first half and led the Purple Knights until the 8:01 mark of the second half when UB tied the game at 81-81.
Bridgeport didn't lead in the second half until a Jacobs layup provided a 94-93 edge with 1:27 on the clock.
