Men's Basketball Tripped Up At NYIT, 86-81
UB Now 7-3 In The ECC And 9-8 Overall
Old Westbury, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport men's basketball team suffered its third East Coast Conference loss of the season on Saturday afternoon on Long Island, as the visiting Purple Knights fell to the host NYIT Bears, 86-81. UB is now 9-8 overall and 7-3 in the ECC. NYIT is now 3-15 overall and 2-9 in conference play. Saturday's contest featured seven ties and 12 lead changes.
Senior Ernest Rouse (Freeport, N.Y.) led Bridgeport in scoring with 19 points. He was joined in double figures by classmates Jesse Jones (Irvington, N.J.) with 17 points, Muhammed Ahmed (Bronx. N.Y.) with 11 points and Eddie Asamoah (Calgary, Canada) with 10 points. Ahmed grabbed a team-leading nine rebounds on the afternoon to fall just shy of a double-double.
Khalif Chapman led NYIT with a game-high 28 points, and teammate Jarrel Green finished with an impressive double-double for the winners with 16 points and 18 rebounds.
The UB men's basketball team is back in action on Monday night when they continue a tough five-game road trip at Queens (N.Y.) College. Tip-off in Flushing is set for 7:30 p.m.
