All Five Starters Reach Double Figures As Men's Basketball Defeats Queens (N.Y.), 85-72
Purple Knights Shoot A Blistering 62.5 % From The Floor For The Game
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport men's basketball team picked up an 85-72 home East Coast Conference win over the Queens (N.Y.) College Knights on Saturday afternoon, as all five starters scored in double figures plus the Purple Knights shot a blistering 62.5 percent from the floor connecting on 30 of 48 field goals. With the win, UB is now 15-8 overall and 10-3 in the ECC. Queens falls to 4-18 overall and 3-9 in conference play. Saturday's victory also gives Bridgeport a three-game winning streak, and the team has notched wins in five of its last six outings.
Senior William Harrison (Bronx, N.Y.) led the Purple Knights in scoring with 19 points. He was followed by junior Hakeem Rodriguez (Queensbridge, N.Y.), who was perfect seven for seven from the floor with a three-pointer plus three-of-three from the foul line, with 18 points. Rounding out the UB players in double-figure scoring were senior Dante Menter (Brooklyn, N.Y.) with 16 points, junior Darian David (Bronx, N.Y.) with 13 points and junior Lloyd Antoine (Brooklyn, N.Y.) with 11 points. David (seven assists) and Rodriguez (six assists) distributed the ball extremely well for the winners.
Queens' Khalil McDonald led all scorers and rebounders in the game with 21 points and 11 boards.
The UB men are back in action next Saturday afternoon as the team travels to our nation's capital for a huge ECC contest versus the University of the District of Columbia. Game time on February 18 is set for 3:00 p.m.
