Purple Knights Rally From Down 24 To Post 78-65 Home ECC Win Over Molloy
Darian David Leads UB With 24 Points And Six Steals
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport men's basketball team stormed back from a 24-point deficit with 18:35 to play in the second half to grab a 78-65 home East Coast Conference win over the visiting Molloy College Lions on Wednesday night. Down 48-24 with 1:25 gone in the second half, the Purple Knights went on a furious 35-8 run over the next 11:52 of play to take a 59-56 lead which they never relinquished after a three-pointer by junior Darian David (Bronx, N.Y.) With the victory, UB is now 9-6 overall and 4-1 in the ECC. Molloy drops to 5-10 overall and 2-3 in conference play.
David scored 20 of his team-leading 24 points for the Purple Knights in the second half, and he also added a game-high six steals for the winners.
Senior Dante Menter (Brooklyn, N.Y.) with 14 points, junior Hakeem Rodriguez (Queensbridge, N.Y.) with 11 points and junior Lloyd Antoine (Brooklyn, NY) with 10 points joined David in double digits for Bridgeport.
Defense played a key role in the Purple Knights' comeback, as they recorded 10 of their 12 steals in the game during the second half.
Molloy's Jimmy Nolan led all scorers in the game with 28 points, as he connected on 7-of-11 three-point shots.
The Lions raced out to a 42-24 halftime lead due in large part to red-hot shooting, as Molloy hit 15-of-24 shots in the first 20 minutes of play which is a 62.5 field goal percentage.
The Bridgeport men are back in action at home on Saturday afternoon when they host the University of the District of Columbia in a key East Coast Conference contest that begins in Hubbell Gym at 3:00 p.m.
