WATERBURY, Conn. – In the first of two doubleheaders over the next two days, the University of Bridgeport's baseball team dropped a pair of contests at Post University on Sunday. The Purple Knights dropped matchups of 11-6 and 2-0.
GAME ONE - Post 11, Bridgeport 6
Jeremy Rodrigues provided the largest highlights in the opener courtesy of a pair of solo home runs. He also singled to finish 3-for-5 with three runs scored and two RBIs.
Rodrigues now leads the Purple Knights with eight long balls this season. He also ranks first on UB in batting average (.352), on-base percentage (.446), slugging (.640) and RBIs (27).
Vin Mallon and Tyler Pennisi joined in with multiple hits of their own in the first game, including each tallying RBI doubles in the ninth inning.
Christian Ortiz rounded out Bridgeport's four multi-hit performers with a 2-for-5 effort at the dish.
On the mound, Luke Russo enjoyed UB's most success with 4.1 innings out of the bullpen. He allowed just one run and three hits while tallying five strikeouts.
GAME TWO – Post 2, Bridgeport 0
James Ackerman led the Purple Knights in the finale with his best start of the season. The right-hander allowed just two unearned runs (five hits) across six innings of work.
Bridgeport put together just two hits in game two, including a double by Anthony Matturro and a single from Marcos Dominguez.
