POMONA, N.Y. – In the first of two doubleheaders against Dominican over the next 24 hours, the University of Bridgeport's baseball team split a pair of games with the Chargers on Friday afternoon. The 1-1 afternoon puts UB's record at 3-5 in the CACC this season.
GAME TWO – Bridgeport 7, Dominican 3 (7 Inn.)
Bridgeport rebounded from the opener with a strong all-around showing in the finale. The Purple Knights registered runs in four different innings and received a standout pitching performance from James Ackerman.
Ackerman scattered six hits and three runs while picking up his first complete game of the season. He struck out three Chargers.
Offensively, seven different Purple Knights combined for their seven hits in the contest.
Jeremy Rodrigues provided one of those knocks with a solo home run in the first inning. He now has 18 career long balls for the Purple Knights.
Liam O'Neal joined in with an RBI single in the third while Nico Salmeri recorded a team-best two RBIs. Salmeri initiated a pair of bases-loaded walks. He also scored on a wild pitch and reached base four times.
The Purple Knights put together leads of 3-0 and 6-1 before finishing off a four-run win.
GAME ONE – Dominican 9, Bridgeport 6
Bridgeport's top of order led the way in the opener. UB's first five batters combined to go 8-for-19 with six RBIs and five runs scored.
Christian Ortiz and Vin Mallon stayed red hot to begin 2025. Ortiz knocked an RBI single in the seventh which plated two and tied the game up at 6-6.
Mallon, meanwhile, launched his sixth home run of the season (1st, CACC) in the same inning—a two-run blast that cut the Dominican lead to 6-4.
Jay Hamilton supplied two runs of his own courtesy of a first-inning single that scored Rodrigues and O'Neal.
O'Neal and Rodrigues each walked twice while combining for three hits and four runs scored.
Despite earning the loss, Brendan Palmer pitched well in his fifth start on the mound. He allowed zero earned runs while striking out six in five innings.
Out of the bullpen, Ryan DiLillo completed the contest by allowing two earned runs over the final three innings.
