UB's opening win was comprised of 13 hits, 10 walks and a pair of stout pitching performances.
Vin Mallon was especially impressive as he launched two home runs and finished the game with six RBIs. He launched a grand slam in the fifth that put UB up 5-2. Mallon now has nine career home runs.
Jeremy Rodrigues and Marcos Dominguez also put forth multi-hit games. Rodrigues finished 2-for-6 with two RBIs and a run scored while Dominguez went 3-for-3 with two runs scored and a walk.

On the pitching front, Brendan Palmer earned the win with a five-inning performance in which he allowed just two runs and struck out six.
Tyler Hodella, meanwhile, picked up his second career save with three scoreless innings out of the bullpen.

UB was unable to hold on to a 5-0 lead in the finale as Caldwell tallied a six-run fifth inning. The Cougars logged seven of their runs in the game with two outs while seven of their tallies were also unearned.
Liam O'Neal provided all five of the Purple Knights' runs courtesy of an RBI ground out in the first followed by a second-inning grand slam. O'Neal now has two home runs this season—both coming in the last four games.
