Baseball Falls to AIC, 11-8
Purple Knights start 10-game stretch in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – On the first day of a 10-game stretch in Myrtle Beach, the University of Bridgeport's baseball team dropped an 11-8 decision to American International College on Friday. The loss puts the Purple Knights' record at 1-4 so far this season.
Bridgeport, which has scored 18 runs over its last two games, was unable to recover from an early deficit against AIC. The Yellow Jackets jumped out to 6-0 and 7-2 leads while plating nine of their runs over the first five innings.
UB would get within 7-5 in the fourth and 9-7 in the eighth but two AIC insurance runs in the ninth erased any comeback attempt.
Offensively, Jay Hamilton broke out with one of the best games of his UB career. The Long Islander went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored. He hammered a two-run home run in the fourth inning for his second career long ball.
Vin Mallon and Christian Ortiz also had two hits in the contest with Mallon doubling in a pair of runs in the second inning.
Liam O'Neal, Jaden Echevarria and Andrew Sinclair all recorded singles in the game with O'Neal also notching an RBI ground out.
On the mound, Thomas Stapleton impressed in his season debut. The left-hander posted a pair of scoreless innings out of the bullpen.
