Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport baseball team wrapped up is 2022 season on a chilly Mother's Day afternoon in Seaside Park by dropping both ends of an East Coast Conference doubleheader against the visiting St. Thomas Aquinas College Spartans. STAC took game one, 3-1, and completed the sweep with a 6-0 win in game two. UB finishes its 2022 campaign with 19-28 overall record and an 8-13 ECC mark. STAC is now 22-21 overall and 14-7 in conference action.
In game one, UB scored first on an RBI-groundout by freshman Jeremy Rodrigues (Monroe, Conn.), but that was all the scoring the team could muster all afternoon.
Graduate student Jason Burger (Orlando, Fla.), who was looking to move atop the UB career pitching wins list with a victory in the opener, pitched well, but was the hard-luck loser working 8.1 innings in which he allowed three runs on six hits with 10 strikeouts and three walks.
In game two, graduate student Conall Roberts (Mt. Laurel. N.J.) played in his 176 career game in a UB uniform to move to first place in the Purple Knights' games played list.
Classmate Alex Rauso (Trumbull, Conn.) closed out his stellar UB career on Sunday with three hits and a run scored in the two games, and he finished his final season in the Park City with a .309 batting average and led the team with four home runs, 34 runs batted in, 51 hits, 22 doubles and 37 runs scored.
