Justin Hafele Moves Atop The UB Career Saves List As Baseball Tops Dominican (N.Y.), 16-14
Purple Knights Rally To Earn The Win With Four Runs In The Seventh And Four More Markers In The Ninth
Pomona, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport baseball team snapped a four-game losing streak on Wednesday with a 16-14 non-conference road win over the Dominican (N.Y.) College Chargers. The 16 runs scored are a single-game season-high for the Purple Knights, who also banged out a total of 20 hits on the afternoon. UB trailed 13-8 after six innings before coming back to score four times in both the seventh and ninth innings to grab the victory. With the win, Bridgeport is now 15-21 overall. With the loss, the Chargers are now 12-26 so far in 2022.
Sophomore Anthony Pascale (Stony Brook, N.Y.) went 4-for-6 at the plate for the winners with a home run on Wednesday, plus he drove in four runs.
Graduate student Alex Rauso (Trumbull, Conn.) also had four hits plus a homer and drove in three runs for UB against the Chargers.
Also starring on offense for Bridgeport on Wednesday were junior Jacob Rich (Northwood, N.H.), who had three hits and three runs batted in, and freshman Jeremy Rodrigues (Monroe, Conn.), also had three base knocks and drove in two.
On the mound, sophomore Jason Giambra (Milford, Conn.) moved his season record to 3-0 earning the win with 2.1 innings of scoreless relief in which he allowed only one hit with three strikeouts and two walks.
Some history was made in the ninth inning for the Bridgeport pitching staff, as senior Justin Hafele (Shelton, Conn.) worked that inning to notch his sixth save of 2022, which gives him 12 for his career; and that twelfth saves moves him atop the University of Bridgeport career saves list.
Up next. The UB baseball team returns home to open an important East Coast Conference series against the Queens (N.Y.) College Knights on Friday afternoon in Seaside Park. First pitch is set for 3:00 p.m.
