Molloy Defeats Bridgeport, 3-0, To Open Weekend ECC Series
Same Two Teams Will Meet On Long Island For A 12 Noon Saturday Doubleheader
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport baseball team was shutout for the second straight day on Thursday, as Molloy's Charlie Cucchiara pitched a two-hitter to lead the Lions to a 3-0 East Coast Conference win over the host Purple Knights. Bridgeport is now 14-19 overall and 5-5 in the ECC. Molloy raises its record to 22-10 overall and 8-2 in conference action.
Senior Craig Leonard (Holtsville, N.Y.) had a sixth inning double and graduate single Conall Roberts (Mt. Laurel, N.J.), with a single in the ninth, had the two UB base knocks on the day.
Junior Justin Nyarady (Trumbull, Conn.) pitched well, but was the hard-luck loser for the Purple Knights, as he worked seven innings in which he allowed six hits, three runs (all earned) with five strikeouts and three walks.
Classmate Tyler Solomon (Blue Point, N.Y.) worked two scoreless innings in relief for Bridgeport to continue the bullpen's stellar performance of late.
Up next, the same two teams will take Friday off before closing out their three-game series with a doubleheader hosted by Molloy beginning at 12 noon on Saturday.
