UB Baseball Battles Southern New Hampshire But Falls, 5-3
Team Back In Action At Home On Friday Versus Lincoln (Pa.) University
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport took on one of the top teams in the East Region at home on Tuesday afternoon in Seaside Park, and the Purple Knights battled with the Southern New Hampshire University Penmen but fell to SNHU, 5-3, in non-conference action. UB is now 11-16 overall, and the Penmen up their season mark to 17-5.
SNHU scored four run in the top of the third inning to grab a 4-0 lead which they never gave up on its way to the victory.
Bridgeport outhit Southern New Hampshire, 8-4 in the contest, but the visitors benefited from eight walks and a hit batter.
Freshman Jeremy Rodrigues (Monroe, Conn.) led the UB offense with two hits, and he drove in a run with a double in the eighth inning. Senior Craig Leonard (Holtsville, N.Y.) drove in the Purple Knights' other two runs with a single in the fifth.
Up next, the UB baseball team is scheduled to return to East Coast Conference play on Friday afternoon at home, when the Purple Knights host Lincoln (Pa.) university in a 12 noon doubleheader.
