Baseball Plates Six Runs Early To Take The Rubber Game Of An ECC Series At D'Youville
Purple Knights Defeat The Saints, 6-5, On Sunday In Chilly Western New York
Niagara Falls, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport baseball team scored six runs in the first four innings of action and then held on for 6-5 road win over the host D'Youville College Saints to take the rubber game of the three-game East Coast Conference series between the two team teams in chilly Western New York. With the victory, the Purple Knights are now 11-15 overall and 3-3 in conference play. D'Youville is now 7-11 overall and 1-5 in the ECC.
As a team, UB banged out 13 hits in Sunday's win led by Conall Roberts (Grad., Mt. Laurel, N.J.), who went 3-for-5 at the plate with an RBI.
Four Purple Knights, Jake Woods (So., Stony Brook, N.Y.), Alex Rauso (Grad., Trumbull, Conn.), Anthony Pascale (So., Stony Brook, N.Y.) plus Stephen Giambra (Grad., Milford, Conn.), each had two hits on the afternoon.
On the mound, starter Jason Burger (Grad., Orlando, Fla.) earned his first win of the season working 5.2 innings, and senior Justin Hafele (Shelton, Conn.) worked a scoreless ninth inning to earn his fourth save of the season.
Senior Matthew Wirz (Stamford, Conn.) also pitched 2.1 innings of scoreless ball out the Purple Knights' bullpen on Sunday.
Up next, the UB baseball team is slated to step of conference play and host Souther New Hampshire University in Seaside Park at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
