Purple Knights Nipped By Mercy, 3-2, To Open 2022 East Coast Conference Schedule

Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport baseball team opened its 2022 East Coast Conference schedule on Friday afternoon with a 3-2 road loss against host Mercy College, as the Mavericks plated a run in the bottom of ninth after the Purple Knights tied the game at 2-2 in the top of then innings.  UB is now 8-12 overall and 0-1 in the ECC.  Mercy moves to 7-13 overall and 1-0 in conference play.

Sophomore Jake Woods (Stony Brook, N.Y.) and graduate student Alex Rauso (Trumbull, Conn.) each had two hits for the Purple Knights on Friday.

Sophomore Anthony Pascale (Stony Brook, N.Y.) drove in UB's first run with a sacrifice fly in the top of the fourth to tie the game at 1-1, and freshman Jeremy Rodrigues (Monroe, Conn.) tied the game at 2-2 with a two-out triple in the top of ninth.

The same two teams will close out their three-game series with a 12 noon doubleheader in Bridgeport on Saturday.
