Purple Knights Plate A Season-High 12 Runs In ECC Baseball Win Over Visiting Molloy
UB Wins 12-3 As Tim Bickford And Casey McCone Homer To help Power A 13-Hit Attack
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport baseball team exploded for a single-game, season-high 12 runs on Sunday afternoon, as the Purple Knights posted a 12-3 East Coast Conference home win over the visiting Molloy College Lions at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard. Sunday's victory gives UB a 3-1 series win over the Lions, and Bridgeport is now 14-18 overall and 10-6 in the ECC. Molloy is now 15-15 overall and 4-8 in the ECC.
Senior Tim Bickford (Wallingford, Conn.) went 2-for-3 at the plate with three runs batted in and two runs scored. Bickford crushed his third home run of 2015 in the contest, a solo shot in the bottom of the second inning.
Sophomore Casey McCone (Milford, Conn.) launched his first home run of the year, a three-run big fly in the sixth inning.
Senior John Ascenzia (West Haven, Conn.) had two hits and drove in a pair of runs for the winners.
Sophomore Dylan Steigerwald (Holbrook, N.Y.), junior Alec Jannotta (Branford, Conn.) and freshman Tyler Theiss (Deer Park, N.Y.), each had two hits on the afternoon for the Purple Knights who amassed 13 hits on the day.
Freshman PJ Martino (Medford, N.Y.) picked up the win in relief for UB, as he worked five innings of no-hit, no-run ball in which he struck four and walked only one. Martino is now 1-2 on the season.
