Rob Anderson's Stellar Relief Performance Helps UB Baseball Best Queens (N.Y.), 5-3
Purple Knights Take The East Coast Conference Series Three Games To One
Flushing, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport baseball team posted a 5-3 East Coast Conference road win over the host Queens (N.Y.) College Knights on Monday afternoon in New York City. With the victory, the Purple Knights take the four-game conference series by a 3-1 margin and raise their season record to 7-15 overall and the ECC mark to 4-3. QC is now 4-6 overall and 1-3 in conference action.
Junior, right-hander Rob Anderson (Stratford, Conn.) starred on the mound in relief for UB on Monday, as he raised his season record to 3-0. Anderson came into the game with the score tied 3-3 in the bottom of the fourth inning, and he proceeded to work the final six innings of the contest holding Queens scoreless and hitless, as he stuck out four without issuing a walk.
At the plate, the Purple Knights banged out a total of 12 hits on the day led by freshman Jose Negron (New Haven, Conn.), who went 3-for-5 from the number two slot in the Bridgeport order.
A trio of UB players, senior John Ascenzia (West Haven, Conn.), junior Dave Egeland (Toms River, N,J.) and freshman Tyler Theiss (Deer Park, N.Y.), each had two hits on the afternoon, and Ascenzia and Egeland each drove in a run.
Senior Tim Bickford (Wallingford, Conn.) had one hit and two runs batted in for the winners.
The UB baseball team is schedule to play at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Tuesday afternoon when they host Dominican (N.Y.) College. First pitch is slated for 3:00 p.m.
