Whitten and Panzera Named UB's Purple Knights of the Week (Dec. 2-8)

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – After putting forth terrific performances in competition last week, sophomore John Panzera of the University of Bridgeport's track and field team and junior Niyah Whitten of the women's basketball squad have been tabbed as UB's Purple Knights of the Week, for the week ending Dec. 8, 2024.

It was a double PR for Panzera that highlighted his first meet of the indoor season this past weekend. The Haddam, Conn. native performed well in both the 60-hurdles and the high jump at the FastTrack Season Opener last Friday in Staten Island. He clocked a 9.03 in the 60-hurdles while tallying a mark of 1.89m in the high jump.

Whitten, meanwhile, averaged a team-high 13.0 points per game during a 1-1 stretch last week. She was especially impressive during UB's win over Bloomfield when she posted a stat line of 17 points, five boards and three assists. Whitten currently ranks second on Bridgeport in scoring this season (10.2 ppg). She has also played the most minutes of any Purple Knight this year.
