Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport men's soccer team dominated Saturday night's home match versus the visiting Holy Family University Tigers outshooting the visitors, 14-3, and controlling the run of play for much of the 90 minutes, but it was an own goal by HFU just 23 seconds into the second half that proved to be the difference in a 1-0 Purple Knights' Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory. Bridgeport is now an even 5-5-2 overall and 4-2-0 in the CACC. The Tigers are now 3-5-2 overall and 1-3-1 in conference action.
The match's lone tally came when Bridgeport freshman Joao Miranda (Bridgeport, Conn.) sent a chip across the face of the Tigers' goal from the end line that deflected off a Holy Family defender and into the back of the net.
Along with their substantial advantage in shots, the Purple Knights also finished with a 6-2 edge in corners.
Bridgeport goalkeeper Hugo Franceschi (Fr., Toulouse, France) earned his second clean sheet of 2023 blanking the Tigers, and Holy Family goalie Luke Shank played well making five saves on Saturday.
Up next, the UB men's soccer team opens a three-match road trip with a key conference contest at Wilmington (Del.) University. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m.
