Staten Island, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport men's soccer team tried to stage a valiant late-game comeback on Tuesday afternoon on the road against the College of Staten Island, but the Purple Knights fell just short of tying the match at 2-2 in the final minute of action, as CSI defeated UB, 2-1, in the Purple Knights' final non-conference contest of the 2023 season. Bridgeport is now 2-3-2 so far this season; while Staten Island moves to 2-2-1 overall.
The host squad netted goals in the 12th and 54th minutes of play, and it looked like the visitors would not score in the contest, but junior Kamrock Tovar (Stratford, Conn.) got Bridgeport on the board with his first goal of the season with just 3:37 to play.
The Purple Knights continued to pressure the Dolphins in the closing minutes of play but had a game-tying score disallowed because of an offside call in the final minute of action.
Bridgeport outshot Staten Island, 13-8, in the contest.
Up next, the UB men's soccer team heads to Delaware on Saturday afternoon, as the Purple Knights take on Goldey-Beacom in a CACC match. Game time is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. in the First State.
